A couple of weeks ago, my sweet Anna got tubes in her ears and also had her tongue clipped. I would like to say that we had an easy time with her recovery, but that would be a lie. Thankfully, from the standpoint of what she had done, we didn't have any problems. But, the gas from the anesthesia made her miserable.
When her procedure was done, Wally and I walked through the doors to recovery and heard her screaming like you wouldn't believe. I had NEVER heard her scream like that before. I got kind of spooked because when we walked in her door, she had blood coming out of her mouth from her tongue being clipped. I tried to nurse her because she hadn't eaten yet that morning and that didn't go well at all. She screamed the entire way home and almost all morning.
I knew it was the gas because everytime she burped or tooted, her entire body would shake and then she would scream like she was in horrific pain. I kept her full of Mylicon & Gripe Water and that didn't seem to even touch it. I called both the ENT and my pediatrician and they said this was normal. But, she was not my baby girl.
It took her almost a week to get back to normal. She stayed gassy for days. Thankfully, she got to where it wasn't painful to pass the gas, but I was really starting to worry about her!
She nursed a little better after having her tongue clipped and I've noticed that she's not near as messy when she takes a bottle. But, I was more concerned about her speech development above all.
